Flat roofs traditionally have consisted of plywood roof boarding with three layers of waterproof covering, usually bituminous felt, on top. The normal lifetime is around 10 years. So why not consider re roofing your flat roof with an alternative material that lasts much longer?

New Materials for Re Roofing Products and Designs

1. Concrete. Modern concrete surfaces usually have acrylic polymer modifiers added to the mix before laying, and can be polished to give added protection from the weather. Such a surface for your flat roof would last for many more years than a regular bituminous felt roof, and would cost only a little more.

2. Metal. Roofing sheets made of metal are easily strong enough to protect flat roofs. Insulation on the underside prevents excessive heat building up in hot weather and the escape of warm air in cold weather or at night. The surface can be treated so as to look like a regular flat roof, such as shingles, and in fact you have quite a colour selection.

Metal roofs are almost indestructible and virtually maintenance free. They will stand up to everything the weather can throw at them and will give you a lifetime of worry-free service. They do cost up to three times more than a regular, old fashioned flat roof covering, but usually come with a 50 year warranty and are far more cost-effective in the long term.

3. Glass. This is becoming increasingly popular as a roofing material, even for flat roofs. It’s completely weather-proof, needs no maintenance, and will last a lifetime, like metal roofs. It is flexible, durable and cost-effective, and will bathe the room below in natural light.

Glass roofs are bonded into place using aluminium and silicone – all equally indestructible materials. With a flat roof cleaning is sometimes a problem, but usually a quick use of the hosepipe is all that is required, and for larger roofs self-cleaning glass is available.

So consider these three re roofing materials when thinking about your new flat roof, and then call us on 555-5555 to get started.
